Data Diary is developed and published by Edmund Meyers Software LLC ("we," "us").
The short version
Data Diary keeps your information exactly where it belongs — on your device. Everything you record stays local on your iPhone or iPad and is never sent to us or uploaded to an external server by Data Diary, unless you choose to export it.
If you enable optional location services, your coordinates are sent to Apple's reverse-geocoding service to look up your street and city; your recorded values and notes are not sent with that lookup. Your device may include your Data Diary database in its regular encrypted iCloud or computer backups, but those backups are entirely managed by Apple and your own settings.
If you ever want to share your information with a doctor, coach, or anyone else, you can use the export feature to select exactly what you want to send. Otherwise, your data stays private, personal, and fully under your control.
Data Collection & Storage
Data Diary stores all user-generated information — including entries, metrics, notes, location aliases, reminders, and configuration settings — locally on the user's device. The application does not transmit, transfer, sync, or otherwise communicate recorded entries, metrics, notes, or configuration settings to the app developer or to an external server, service, or third party, except through exports initiated by the user.
Data Diary does not require an account and does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or other contact information. No advertising, tracking, third-party analytics SDK, or app-operated remote logging of user content is used. We do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.
Location
Location access is optional. If you allow it, Data Diary reads your device's location when you record an entry and sends the coordinates to Apple's reverse-geocoding service solely to resolve a street and city. Recorded metric values and notes are not included in that request. The resulting street and city are stored locally with your entry. You can turn location access off at any time in iOS Settings; Data Diary continues to work without it.
Reminders
Reminders you create are scheduled as local notifications on your device by iOS. Their content and schedule are stored locally and are not sent to us.
Crash Reports & Diagnostics
Apple may collect crash diagnostics and make reports available to Edmund Meyers Software LLC through TestFlight, App Store Connect, or Xcode. App Store diagnostic sharing depends on your Apple analytics-sharing settings; TestFlight has its own beta-testing terms and feedback options. Reports can include app and operating-system versions, device details, and technical crash information.
We use them only to investigate failures and improve reliability, not for advertising or tracking, and do not link crash diagnostics to your diary records or a user account. Data Diary does not attach your database, recorded values, notes, or saved addresses to crash reports. If you choose to submit TestFlight feedback, Apple may also share your comments, screenshots, and tester contact information; avoid including private diary information. The app contains no third-party crash-reporting SDK.
Backups
User data may be included in device-level backups performed by the operating system (such as encrypted iCloud backups or encrypted local computer backups). These backups are managed solely by the user and the operating system provider. Data Diary does not access, modify, transmit, or control backup data.
Exports
The application provides an optional export feature that allows users to manually generate a file containing selected metrics and date ranges, optionally including notes and locations. Exported data is created only at the user's request and is stored or shared solely according to the user's actions through the iOS share sheet. Data Diary does not automatically export or transmit recorded information. Once you share an export, the recipient's handling of that file is governed by their own practices.
Third-Party Access
Data Diary does not share, sell, lease, or disclose recorded user data to any third party, except as directed by the user through exports. Optional address lookup uses Apple's reverse-geocoding service, which receives coordinates to resolve a street and city. Device backups may also include app data as described above. No external service providers receive, process, or analyze recorded metric values or notes on behalf of Data Diary.
Security
All data is stored within the app's local sandbox environment. Access to this data is protected by the device's operating system security features, including device encryption and user authentication. Data Diary does not circumvent, weaken, or bypass these protections.
User Control
Users maintain full control over their data at all times. Users may add, edit, delete, or export their information as they choose. Delete Everything on the Home screen permanently removes all diary entries, metrics, notes, location aliases, reminders, and cached export files after two confirmations. It does not remove copies already shared or device-level backups. Removing the application from the device will delete all locally stored data unless it has been preserved through a device-level backup.
Because we do not receive your diary data, we cannot view, correct, or delete it on your behalf — you are always in control of it directly on your device.
Children
Data Diary is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because diary content stays on the device, we do not receive personal information through the app.
Health Information
You may choose to record health-related information such as symptoms, sleep, or medication. That information is treated like all other diary content: it stays on your device unless you export it. Data Diary is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Statistical observations are exploratory and do not establish cause and effect.
Changes to This Policy
If we change how Data Diary handles information, we will update this page and its effective date. Material changes will also be reflected in the app's Privacy page.
